Story Synopsis – Told Cinematically
Virginia is looking for a fresh start. She accidentally stumbles upon an affordable room in an eclectic flat and soon finds herself involved in a world that completely destroys her ideas about love and sex. However, her housemates have just one rule. Honesty should be maintained while one is in a non-monogamous relationship.
Attracted by Jake’s charisma and the group’s unsaturated authenticity, Virginia starts pushing her own boundaries. She realizes this only as she finds she can actually date more than one person at a time, attends outlandish parties, and is confused as well as thrilled by the extent of connection she has discovered.
But when that attraction turns into something more serious and starts to upset the delicate harmony of the place, Virginia is confronted by her own feelings about love and whether she can really exist as someone who flourishes within such a world, which is equally fluidly, emotionally honest and commitment phobic.
⭐ Themes & Reception
Sex-Positive explores polyamory, open marriages, emotional self-discovery as well as the importance of open communication. This film is not just about sensuality as it seriously addresses questions about boundaries, growth and envies in relationships.
Some critics loved its boldness, positivity, and inclusive storytelling and some felt it went a little too indie awkward in the execution and missed a gloss. Yet, its heart and humor totally won audiences, especially who desire more authentic representations of non-traditional relationships.
It’s not an A-plus at all with critics’ circles but it has made itself a feel-good, conversation-starting indie that does his or her own thing, and to others, that can already be enough.
