As a social worker, Emily Jenkins manages a caseload that notably includes the case of Lillith Sullivan, a girl adopting the close to mute persona attributed to children of dangerously abusive parents. Emily’s parental instincts compel her to intervene and rescue Lillith from what she believes is an excruciating attempted murder at the hands of her parents. Emily takes Lillith into temporary foster care believing she has successfully saved a child from a bleak destiny.
Initially, Lillith appears to be the ideal childâwell-mannered, soft-spoken, and bright. However, soon people in Emilyâs social circle begin to die in horrific and cruelly psychological ways. Emily also starts to lose her mind, slowly succumbing to insanity as she is plagued with dark visions and relentless nightmares.
Through her investigation, Emily learns the shocking truth about Lillithâthat she is not a typical girl, but rather a demonic entity created from fear. Lillith’s biological parents’ convoluted attempts to âmurderâ her was their way to escape from her dominion. Understanding what she has done, Emily desperately attempts to outsmart Lillith, culminating in a nerve-wracking, spine-chilling climax where she drives Lillith- whom she considers trapped- into a submerged lake.
